The season has gotten off to a GREAT start already with Stowe receiving snowfall for 25 days of the season, which is only 35 days old. Stowe has received over 10 feet of snow so far this year! AND winter has not officially started yet!!

According to the official Stowe Snow Report Upper Nosedive will be closed for the next couple of days for snowmaking; it is open below Cliff Trail with snowmaking in progress. The medium terrain park now has 14 features with the half-pipe well under construction and should open during Christmas week. The Toll House trails are open though there is no return lift service at this time; the lift should be opening December 22nd; with this opening Stowe should be completely open for the Christmas holidays!!! Happy Riding and Skiing!!!

There's lots of great snow in Stowe, Vermont!

Stowe has received 8-12" of snow over Martin Luther King weekend, and snow has accumulated nearly 2 feet in the last week! The trail surfaces are in great shape with packed powder conditions!

There are now 31 trails open with 24 miles of terrain for ridding and skiing! With more opening for the weekend, and there is a chance of MORE SNOW falling later in the week. Even with all the new snow, they are continuing to aggressively make more all around the resort.

Here is a link to the latest Snow Report.

With winter officially knocking on Stowe's door the Mountain is set to open On November 18th!!!! 4 inches have already been measured on the stake at the summit of Mt. Mansfield on October 21st and some itchy locals are getting a head start on the season. Weather permitting, opening day is slated for November 18th and with 4 inches already this is a good indication of things to come.

“Since 1792, the Old Farmers Almanac has been making or breaking the preseason for many a ski bum. This year, the mighty book's predictions are music to a skier's ears: a big snow year” -- The Stowe Reporter, 10/26/2006.

There has been a lot of work done this year up at the mountain, including new snow making equipment, lifts and trails, all part of the $400 million overhaul and expansion plans. The Stowe Mountain Lodge, at the base of Spruce Peak is something to be seen! What an awesome job they are going with the expansions and preserving the charm that is Stowe. Also new this year (and I look forward to riding it) is the new transfer lift that runs between Spruce Peak and Mt. Mansfield connecting them both over route 108.

With all signs pointing to this being a big winter for snow, it's time to break out your ski's and boards and get them tuned for the season. Stowe offers the best skiing to be had within a few hours drive of New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts. It not to early to start planning your season on the slops, give us a call for more information or check out our availability calendar and come on up!!

Happy New Year!!! And Snow is in the air here in Stowe!

We started off our New Year celebration last night with dinner at the Red Basil on Mountain Road, Probably our favourite restaurant in Stowe, then a drive through town and back to The Gathering Place to bring in the New Year with friends.

Today we opted for the snowshoes instead of the snowboards and went out for a few hours on the Catamount Trail and Wiessner Woods trails; the entrance to which is just a short walk (¼ mile) up Edson Hill from The Gathering Place. The Trails are part of the Stowe Land Trust and are located on approximately 104 acres of conserved property. They are great for novices and experienced snowshoer's alike and being so close to the house make them ideal for a quick jaunt or an afternoon outing. We have some snowshoes here for guests to use if they don't have their own and want to give snowshoeing a go, happy trials!

The snow is good up here after last weeks rain, and though we have not been out on the mountain yet, word has it that conditions are good and that they are doing a great job making snow and grooming the slopes every night. We are looking forward to our first day of 2006 out on out boards.

Snow is still falling in Stowe with a storm expected over Thursday night and the new Sensation Quad scheduled to open this Saturday! The halfpipe is currently being shaped and is expected to open soon!

December 04, 2005

This weekend we went up to The Gathering Place to check on the house and to get our first day in on the mountain. There were about four inches of fresh snow at the house and over two feet of snow on the mountain -- not bad for the first weekend in December -- WE JUST LOVE STOWE!! :)

Conditions on the mountain were good and everone out was having a great time, with enough trails open this early on to find your own space and plenty of fresh powder.

We also brought up a few extra things for the house, including some Snow Shoes for our guest to use, added a few more video's and DVD's to the "small" library and adding a DVD player to the second bedroom.
